Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit back manager Mikel Arteta over the decision to release the club. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the team in the January market.
The Gabon international joined Barcelona on a free transfer on Monday. After the Gunners terminated his contract.
The 32-year-old has not played for the Gunners since five minutes against Everton on 6 December. And was sacked as captain. After violating the discipline of the club.
Arsenal legend Petit believes his former UFABET club made the right decision to let Aubameyang go. As the player has not looked like himself in recent months.

“Miguel Arteta did what everyone expected of him. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.”Emmanuel Petit said.
“I don’t want to show disrespect to Aubameyang. Because I believe he’s a great player. But in the last few months he hasn’t been himself.”
“Something had changed in his mind. I don’t know if it’s about the club the manager or his personal lifestyle. But we don’t see the same Aubameyang from two or three years ago.”
Petit also backed Gunners boss Arteta as he claimed the manager’s ruling on Aubameyang sent a powerful message to the dressing room.
‘I believe Arteta made the right decision on Aubameyang and he made his mark in the dressing room with the choice he made,’ he said.
‘To leave your captain out of a game and then put him on the transfer market is a very strong message to your dressing room.’
The Frenchman added that Aubameyang had not provided the same high level of football since signing a three-year contract worth £350,000-per-week in September 2020.
